Bring Change 2 Mind is an excellent organization whose purpose is “To end the stigma and discrimination surrounding mental illness through widely distributed Public Education Materials based on the latest scientific insights and measured for effectiveness.” The organization was founded by actress, Glenn Close, who has a sister with bipolar disorder and a nephew with schizophrenia.
Next week I will write more information about Bring Change 2 Mind and other organizations whose purposes are to support those with mental illness. For now, I have posted the public service announcement below, which was directed by Ron Howard. The song, “Say,” was donated by John Mayer.
I remember seeing this commercial several years ago prior to my own mental illness diagnosis. It made me sad knowing that so many suffer from mental disorders and that social stigmas cam really affect one. People react differently to disorders of the brain than from other organs–it’s just not right–the pain is the same no matter if it comes from the kidneys, the liver or even the hear; I hope through time and education people will understand this. Us sufferers of mental disorders are not crazy!
