Why a Fitness Update on a Bipolar Blog?

Over 80 percent of people with serious mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and major depression, are overweight or obese. This contributes to them dying at three times the rate of overall population. Therefore, I have begun this weekly fitness update for motivation. Motivation for those of you out there struggling with weight, and more specifically, motivating me.

Here is Last Week’s Fitness Update:

I did the same thing last week as I did the week before. I overindulged on Saturday and Sunday and then spent the rest of the week trying to get enough exercise to make up for it. I was successful and lost just over 2 pounds, but am disappointed because I would likely have lost much more had I not had such a decadent weekend.

I don’t mean to whine, I’m just a little let down. So far this week has been better. I got a little bit of exercise and I did not eat nearly as much as before. I have a positive outlook on the week ahead and that should make all the difference.

The Statistics

Original Maximum Weight: 303 lbs
Goal Weight: 160 lbs
This loss/gain this week: -2.2
Total loss so far: -46.6
Current weight: 256.8

For Those Familiar With Weight Watchers :

Total Daily PP Allowed: 48
Weekly PP: 49 Weekly PP Used: 33
Weekly Activity Earned: 40 pp

  1. In spite of the weekend, you *lost*! You go Bradley! Keep us posted on how you do so we can cheer you on. My success is slow in coming yet I’m working hard using a “clean diet” and exercising but at least the scale is moving, even if slowly. I’m very happy for you. You’re doing great.

    1. Thank you for the positive feedback. I had a pity party for about 5 minutes but now feel positive about last week and this week.

  2. A loss is still a loss, no matter if you thought it should be four pounds or two. Good for you for getting out there every week and kicking butt, even when it feels like you didn’t do well. You are trying and that is all you can really ask of yourself!

    1. Thank you, Rose. I finally got my head on straight and realize that losing 2 pounds is nothing to cry about. Even though I expected more at least I’m heading in the right direction.
