“How you doin’?”

I’ve lived all over the country. The Midwest, the South, the desert, northern California, and now Los Angeles. This may come as a surprise to many but Southern California is one of the friendliest, if not THE, friendliest part of the country I’ve lived in. Only when I worked in Beverly Hills did I regularly encounter the stereotypical, snobbish, self centered type. Even then they were the minority.

That being said, I passed a neighbor on my street this morning and he asked the usual “How you doin’?” When did this happen? When did we stop saying “Good day” or simply “Hello”? It’s not like we want the other person to stop and tell us how they’re really doing. I admit I’m guilty of this as well. I’m hereby making a commitment to myself from now on to say “Hello”, or something similar, rather than “How are you doing”.

I watched “Cloverfield” last night and loved it. It’s good I didn’t see it in the theater. It’s all done in a handheld camera effect, similar to “Blair Witch Project” It’s bouncy and shaky. It’s the type of movie that would cause me a seizure before I got on my meds. As a kid I loved Godzilla movies. If you did too, I highly recommend it. It’s much better than that crappy Godzilla update with Matthew Broderick about a decade ago.

I’m a five on the mood scale today…WOO HOO! Typically when I’m a five I try to get a whole lot done and then I’m down and out for the next week. I’m making sure I pace myself today. I do have three loads of laundry in the washers…WOO HOO! The really big event that shows I’m a five….when I took my lunch out of the oven I remembered to turn the oven off. WOO HOO! Again, you’re probably thinking that remembering to turn the oven off is not a big deal, but believe me, it is. That’s why I use the microwave 99% of the time.

How’s the diet coming? Let’s not talk about it.
