Why a Fitness Update on a Bipolar Blog?

Over 80 percent of people with serious mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and major depression, are overweight or obese. Much of this has to do with medicines that reduce the metabolism. This contributes to them dying at three times the rate of overall population. Therefore, I have begun this weekly fitness update for motivation. Motivation for those of you out there struggling with weight, and more specifically, motivating me.

Here is Last Week’s Fitness Update:

Much to my surprise, this wound up being a good week. I was gluttonous. Friday, the day before my weekly weigh in, was especially so. Typically, I eat lighter on Friday, but this week I had cookies at Starbucks and ate a full pint of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. The entire week wasn’t much better.

As for exercise, I had planned to walk along the beach for four days, but wound up only going two days. As a result, the amount of exercise was about half of what I normally get.

I walked into Weight Watchers on Saturday debating whether to get weighed or not. I was leaning towards not, but decided it was best to know how much I gained before I moved forward. I stepped on the scale fully expecting to have gained 5 pounds, only to find that I lost nearly four.

I don’t know how this happened, but decided I’m not going to question it. I hope I have the same success this upcoming week.

The Statistics

Original Maximum Weight: 303 lbs
Goal Weight: 160 lbs
This loss/gain this week: -3.8
Total loss so far: -50.6
Current weight: 252.8

For Those Familiar With Weight Watchers :

Total Daily PP Allowed: 48
Weekly PP: 49 Weekly PP Left Available: 0
Weekly Activity Earned: 29 pp

    1. If you’re like me, you’ve probably backslid a time or two. One pound is not something to be too upset about.

    1. It’s a tough journey, but worth it. I’ve been battling this for awhile. When I hit fifty, though, I’ve become a bit more obsessed. I want to be around for awhile

  1. I also struggle with my weight, but it is a relatively new issue for me. The pounds are steadily climbing, but I am reducing the mood stabilizer and antidepressant, which contribute to the problem. I look at myself in the mirror and see a strangers body….lol…unfortunately, not a very sexy stranger!! I remember what a challenge this has been for you, but hope the steady reduction will fill you with enthusiasm and confidence…well done, Bradley!
